Bill Roggio on Basra

Long report by Bill Roggio HERE...

Follow the dots:

Sadr's Mahdi Army has been formed by Iran's Qods Force along the lines of Lebanese Hezbollah. Imad Mugniyah, the senior Hezbollah military commander who was killed in Syria in February, was among those behind the formation and training of the Mahdi Army. Iran established the Ramazan Corps to run weapons, fighters, and support to the Special Groups, which include significant elements of Sadr's Mahdi Army.

The NYTimes and LATimes are reporting "protests" and opposition, but Strategy Page explains it is a mopping up of criminal "insurgents" LINK and LINK.

the Iraqi government is using the same techniques to go after the Shia Arab terror networks. Most of these are sponsored by Iran. This makes the Shia terrorists quite unpopular, because Iran has been seen as a threatening neighbor for thousands of years. Iran is also believed, by most Iraqis, to have supported Sunni Arab terrorist groups as well. This is seen as typically Iranian, and just another example of how ruthless and diabolical they can be. On the plus side, the Shia Arab terrorist groups are not as effective as the Sunni Arab ones, which is why the Iraqi security forces are taking them on without a lot of U.S. backup.

If I trust Strategy Page more than the NYTimes, it's because they get it right on places I have been and know what is going on..
