The Egyptian temples and the Ethiopian connection

Jerusalem Post article on history:
Egypt once had two Jewish temples that copied the design of the temple of Jerusalem, and were built in 500 BC.

It would have taken a large, prosperous population to build such things, but where did they go? Could this be the missing link between the Ethiopian Jews and Israel, and is this why the Ark of the Covenant (either the original or a copy) is so revered there?
