Did you miss the annual Elvis Mass?

Yes, August 15 is not only VJ day but it is the feast of Mary's assumption/dormition. Catholics and Orthodox Christians believe she was taken to heaven (a la Elijah or Enoch).... I figure it couldn't happen to a nicer lady...

But in the US, one local Catholic church in Memphis combines the mass obligation for Catholics with an Elvis anniversary mass, to pray for his soul...so that visitors (?Pilgrims) to Graceland won't miss Mass.

August 15 is always a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics in the United States. Here at St. Paul, the mass intention for our 3:00 PM Mass is for Elvis Presley. Visitors from around the world join St. Paul's parishioners in a very moving and spirit-filled liturgy. With music led by the St. Paul Choir, we gather together a great mix of languages, cultures, and religious backgrounds to remember, give thanks, and pray. This mass celebrates Our Lady and pays our respects to our former Whitehaven neighbor, Elvis.

Well, in contrast to the clown masses or the "liturgical dancing by overweight women" masses, at least Elvis sang a good gospel song...
