This is Japanese, but perhaps I should explain. People don't carry large handbags here (too easy to steal).
Here, everyone (even the maids) have cellphones, which they carry around their neck on a strap...the phones are constantly going off, usually with a text, which is cheap (you can buy a "load" at many small stores for a few pesos).
A lot of people carry charms on their cellphone straps...
