Fiestas in New Mexico

Dr. P writes about visiting a church in a New Mexican Pueblo, and enjoying their celebration of St. Dominic.

Heh. Sounds like the Philippines.

--------------------------

Yesterday was the feast of the Assumption, where Mary's  body was taken to heaven by angels. The point of the feast was not to elevate Mary to godhood, but to emphasize two things:
One, when the world ends, we will be resurrected body and soul (not just a soul that floats around or becomes one with the deity).
Two: That bodies are important. We are not just souls but also bodies, with the body's weaknesses and also with our ability to do things to improve what is around us.

----------------------------------
Yesterday was also VJ day...

Guess no one cares about these things anymore.
