Factoid number two

from Improbable research: They suggest this sentence as an icebreaker at parties:

“The Sharkey is a Vertisol and can be classified as a member of the very-fine, smectitic, thermic Chromic Epiaquerts.”

now you know.

This explanation of the sharkey series doesn't help:

TAXONOMIC CLASS: Very-fine, smectitic, thermic Chromic Epiaquerts
well, that makes everything clear.

I teach a soils class, so that sentence immediately made sense to me :)

Vertisols are actually pretty common around here - and as a result, foundation-repair companies are also pretty common.
