Election comments

Watching the election kerfuffles, it reminds me of the late 1970's and early 1980's, when I lived in Africa: it was like the USA was crazy, with an idealistic president who refused to recognize that idealism not tempered with reality ended up in chaos and defeat (read the famous essay "Children of Light, children of darkness" to explain why...or maybe just Kipling). So the result was too far the other direction. Sigh.

On the other hand, maybe this sends a headsup that the elites cannot impose their laws on people without pushback.

Nah. The big business Republicans will stop that move in it's track.

I am reading about the troubles of the Roman republic, and since the USA is not a democracy but a Republic, with checks and balances based on the Roman republic, I am not optimistic.

On the other hand, just maybe the village idiots will do a better job than the elites who live in cloud-cukoo-land... because the idiots have to live in a reality based world.
