George Lucas was inspired to write the original StarWars after seeing the Hidden Fortress, a classic film by Kurosawa, and the newest version continues with it's themes and characters.

one problem if you want to see the films: Turner classic movies has them, which means they aren't on Youtube...
I saw them in the USA on TCM, but also brought a DVD of Ran with me to the Philippines....
