This is Comet Lovejoy, which alas can only be seen in the Southern Hemisphere. This was the comet that plunged into the sun and survived. We might be able to see it here. more HERE

It was named after it's discoverer, Amateur astronomer Terry Lovejoy. his webpage HERE.
