IdleSpeculations has a post on Thomas Tallis, the Catholic composer who wrote this motet for Elizabeth I:

heh. wonder why...

 yes, I know: this long intricate type of music is no longer popular, but you probably know Tallis from Vaughan Williams composition: Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis, one of the most beautiful musical compositions of all times (and which has been used in various films e.g Captain and Commander as background music)...
