CSI HelloKitty

HelloKittyHell reports that you now can have your tooth crown with kitty's image.

You don't have to have a crown to get HelloKitty on your tooth, nor is it just kitty:

Maybe you’ve been seen Tattoos in the arm or back . But what about the Tattoo on the teeth?, Yes Dental Tattoos. This is what happened in India today, Tattoo on the teeth is very popular in these Bollywood countries.
According to orthodontist and implantologist Herman Verma, the youth nowadays is quite adventurous and they take on new trends much easier than generations before them. These dental tattoos are not something new, since they have been used in the West for years (approximately since the early 2000’s).

as the Times of India article notes:
"Dental tattoos came in the limelight when hip-hop singers and rappers began to don them to look phenomenal on the stage. This trend is basically for party animals," agrees Dr Prashant Bhasin, an assistant professor at a dental college, and a private practitioner, adding, "Recently, a 13-year-old girl got a temporary tattoo done on her tooth. She had seen it on her friend's mother's tooth, so she also wanted one. Temporary tattoos are stuck on the tooth with the help of laser, while permanent ones are drilled into the tooth. Patients mostly go for temporary ones because this is a fad, and may not be so cool after a few seasons. Though permanent tattoos can also be removed, temporary ones are easily removable."
on the other hand, trendy crowns can cause problems.

the Journal of Pediatric Dentristry complains:
Decorative crowns for the teeth have gained a resurgence of popularity among adolescents. Similar to other forms of body art found in the mouth, these trendy crowns may be associated with a variety of oral complications. This case report describes a localized form of necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis, exacerbated by a cosmetic gold crown in a teenage girl. Healthier artistic options are discussed to replace this flashy dental fad.

Religious stuff below the fold

NYTimes finally notices Vanity Fair's fluff piece on the wife of Syria's dictator (the bad guy of the week).

Isn't that the same editor of Vanity Fair who is sponsoring a contest to dine with her and the President (just you, them, and 99 other "guests)?

But of course, in this the NYTimes is the pot calling the kettle black, because their very own snarky Maureen Dowd wrote a fluff piece on Saudi awhile back that minimized the problems of women. She even called her article "driving Miss Saudi" without recognizing that the driver was probably a Catholic Pinoy who like the other 1 million Catholics, mostly Pinoys, aren't allowed to have a church, have their rosaries and Bibles thrown away on entering, and can be jailed or deported for attending worship services in a private apartment.

---------------------------------------------------
Related story: What if they gave a protest and no one reported it?

GetReligion finds few stories covering the freedom of religion protests around the country.

But of course, if they "noticed" them, the protesters would soon morph to stories of rabid violent fascists, as the press did with their Tea Party coverage.

on the other hand, our local press didn't cover the thousands in the pro life protests here (in contrast to the 200 Protestants who protested Lady Gaga got world wide headlines.

----------------------------------------------
Speaking of Lady Gaga: ..Jesebel says Madonna's "nipple accident" was a protest of Turkey's plan to tighten abortion laws.
Trying to outsmut the competition? Sorry, Madonna, nipple accidents are sooo last year...

But the local Turkish English language press only notes that it looks like Madonna is worried and jealous of Lady Gaga and Billboard agrees.

Hmm...maybe they should do a remake of All About Eve, called "All About Ms. C".

Why all the stories? It's easier to find articles on Lady Gaga's hair bow than it is to find an in depth discussion of the failure of Spain's hundred billion bailout.

and as any Hello Kitty fan knows: LadyGaga stole the "bow" from HelloKitty.

Stories that make you go "huh?"

Air pollution linked to Diabetes in Afro American women

Huh?

Then why don't the AfroAmerican men, or the Hispanic, white or Asian folks who live in the same neighborhoods have a higher rate of diabetes?

And, of course, this doesn't explain why the highest rate of Diabetes in the US is not in urban black women but in the rural Pima Indians

Obama care is causing Doctors in private practice to go broke.

it used to be we overcharged the rich and treated the poor for free. Now the rich folk's insurance under-reimburses you, and the poor folks gov't healthcare underpays you more (if they don't deny payment altogether). And you have to hire more help to fill out all that required paperwork, buy expensive computers, hire someone to keep the computerized records from crashing, etc.

And then there is this:

"I will see more patients, but I won't check all of their complaints at one time," he explained. "If I do, insurance will bundle my reimbursement into one payment." Patients will have to make repeat visits -- an arrangement that he acknowledges is "inconvenient."

and of course, reimbursement regulations don't let you code that you spent 45 minutes with Mrs. G not for her cold, but because her teenager is on drugs or pregnant, or her husband found a new girlfriend and she spent a half hour crying on your shoulder....none of which you want to put into her medical record because her sister in law works in the medical records office and has been known to snoop...

related Item:

IN 2011, RECORD SHORTAGES OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS: Because of federal regulations. “The number of prescription drug shortages shot up to a record 267 in 2011, nearly four times the level of just seven years ago, a new report says. It’s a shortage made in Washington. . . . As is often the case, government price and output controls are largely to blame for shortages, which have killed at least 15 people since 2010.”
Yeah. The pundits should have seen how well the VA and IHS worked before they decided to remake the US medical system into a top heavy behemoth.

HelloKitty Christmas

we celebrate the religious holiday here in the Philippines, but much of Asia celebrates the secular celbration of Christmas...so it's still PC to say merry Christmas here in Asia...
