Bofur the kind

The biggest surprise in the Hobbit is not that Thorin Oakenshield is younger and more handsome than in the book.Nor is it that Balin is wise and beloved, or that Bombur is fat, or that Fili and Kili are hot dwaves for the teeny boopers.

No, the biggest surprise is Bofur. The one with the funny hat.

Bofur delights in good food and good company and is unfailingly optimistic. Though not especially brave, he will do his best to help those in need, especially those he counts as friends. Along with his brother Bombur and his cousin Bifur, Bofur joined the Quest for the Lonely Mountain partly to seek his fortune – and partly because he was told the beer was free."

 
He was a toymaker...and plays the clarinet. And one reason that Bilbo doesn't turn around and go back to Rivendale is that Bofur urged him to remember he was part of the company and they really wanted him to stay.
