Most of the Ebola stuff is hysteria or being spun for politics.

As fear and confusion gripped the country over how to deal with the killer virus, Liberia’s already shaky health system collapsed. In small local clinics, sometimes entire staffs of eight or 10 people were killed within days. The Catholic church’s biggest hospital in the capital of Monrovia, which employs over 185 staff, was forced to close after nine of their top doctors and administrators died of the virus.
According to World Health Organization statistics from Oct. 3, there have been 7,492 Ebola cases and 3,439 deaths in the current outbreaks. Liberia has been the hardest hit, accounting for 3,834 cases of Ebola and 2,069 deaths.
“The crisis now is health services have come to a standstill,” said Brilliant. Compounding the problem, in August, borders closed and cargo planes refused to land, meaning that things like personal protective equipment (PPEs), the spacesuit-like outfits that protect health workers from the virus, could not arrive. Some organizations pulled their international staff out of the country, but other experts and doctors who wanted to come to Liberia to assist found land borders closed and airports not functioning.
“This past month it’s been a disaster, and the government knows this,” said Brilliant. “Having said that, it’s understandable, because coming out war, the health system was not strong, there was no supply chain management. It was a disaster waiting to happen and it’s happened. The health system is shaken, not dead, but shaken.”
(Liberia’s civil war, when Charles Taylor's National Patriotic Front of Liberia overran the country, lasted from the late 1980s to 2003, when Taylor fled the country for Nigeria. Approximately 250,000 people were killed during the fighting, and the country’s infrastructure was decimated.)
As the country struggled through the early days of the virus in August and September, the Catholic church kicked their network into high gear. The church has 18 clinics and hospitals in the diocese of Monrovia. Even in the worst days of the outbreak, they kept 15 open. Across Liberia, there are approximately 600 hospitals and clinics; 300 are privately run and faith-based, Brilliant said.

Family news
Lolo is okay.
Joy went to Manila with a delivery and a trade fair.
We are starting a harvest today....organic growing means too many weeds. Chano is looking for an organic way to get rid of them without hand weeding. He's in a foul mood due to his back ache...
I am still doing downloads for my new computer. Most but not all will be freeware.
What happened to Youtube? I usually download my "elevator music" from there (I brought about 50 albums with me that I ripped from CD's that I bought to mp3 and listen to but have been increasing my stash with downloads ripped from youtube)
Now I can't find a way to download them easily with my browser. I will have to look up html5 etc. In the meanwhile, some will download with my chinese Youku downloader, if I copy the 'share" address. But since the router is going on and off in the hot weather, it's slow to download anyway.
Oh, FYI: McAfree caught two viruses from CNET's download page, including one embedded in the Youku downloader. Luckily I found it elsewhere, but if you start getting viagra ads from my email, let me know.

Shane was diagnosed with a disorder that kills most infants hours or days after birth. His parents decided to put together a bucket list, taking Shane on various adventures to their favorite places. They posted updates and photos to a Facebook page, Prayers for Shane, which has more than 700,000 followers.
“We are asking for your prayers and support and that God grants us as much time as possible with our beautiful son,” the Philadelphia couple wrote on the page. “Shane has already proven to us that each day must be lived to the fullest and that is exactly what our little family is doing.”

Our older yellow cat died (kidney failure and old age). Sigh. However, the black feral cat, Pandera, is pregnant and looks like she is due any day now. And we have puppies upstairs: Six from Chloe and four from Angel. All of Angel's puppies are brown or black, suggesting she had an outside boyfriend to do the job.
There is a small youth service by a local pastor in our meeting room, singing praise songs. Its nice to have young folks see the joy in praising God.
But Ruby and Joy go to her cousin's pentecostal church, where Ruby is busy leading singing or praise dancing.
Me, I just go to church early to say hi to God and receive him in communion. I'm not big at religious stuff.

Went to church early this morning,, and it was superdecorated. A feast of the Virgin: yes, the feast of the Holy Rosary was last week, a feast day that used to be called Our Lady of Victory, to celebrate how prayers helped the victory at Lepanto against the Turks.
but this one is the Filipino feasts of our Lady of the Rosary of La Naval, that commemorates the naval battle that kept the Dutch and English from taking the country over.
there is also the feast of the Holy name of Mary, that commemorates the arrival of the Polish cavalry that broke the Siege of Vienna.
the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, who encouraged catholics to repent and pray for Russia so that she wouldn't spread her "errors" all over the world, will also remember how Catholics for 70 years prayed the rosary to convert Russia, and how the Iron Curtain fell with little violence and no civil wars.
And of course, Filipinos remember our own People Power revolution, when the Army under General Ramos (a protestant) backed Corey, and was defended from Marcos' local troops by a million Pinoys lead by Cardinal Jaime Sin carrying a statue of Our Lady of Fatima and praying the rosary and singing hymns. There is no Catholic feast day yet, but there is a shrine on the EDSA (main street) with a thirty foot tall madonna, one of the ugliest madonnas anyone has ever seen. Oh well.
The idea is that if you pray enough, you can stop wars.
Why the virgin? Maybe because for poor people, the big shots who preach make God into a boogeyman who judges all your sins and is ready to smash you, but Mary, like your own Mom, will support you and welcome you back.
and the rosary is the prayer of "poor people": originally it was said by the illiterate in place of the 150 psalms.
So Mary is not just a woman who held the maker of the Universe in her womb for 9 months and raised him to adulthood, she is also a symbol of God's love and mercy.

I bought a new computer for myself for my birthday. The good news: It's cheap, last year's model. The bad news? Windows 8....agggh!
I loaded a program so I can use the old fashioned Windows 7 start page, but it took me a search to figure out how to adjust my touch pad so the dang sidebar stops popping up. Go to Mouse, go to mouse drive, go to the exact mouse description in the 4th tab and uncheck the lateral stuff.
So far so good. Took me awhile to do that.
IN the meanwhile, I'm downloading chrome, open office etc.
