Big party/fiesta time here.
First, our nephew is leaving for London to work as a nurse, so we are going to his party for lunch.
Second, our barangay (Neighborhood) is San Lorenzo, and today is St. Lawrence's feast day...there are several St. Lawrences, including San Lorenzo Ruiz, the Philippine Martyr (he worked for Jesuits in Japan and was caught in the Catholic persecutions there).
But our St. Lawrence is the Roman martyr, a deacon...the story is that he was always carrying money, so they arrested him and asked him where he hid his wealth...he said: Come and see...and took them to the slums of Rome, where he was surrounded by the poor who loved him...
He is the patron saint of Librarians and also of cooks, since he was executed by fire...and librarians celebrate his feast by serving coldcuts...
