From all over people come to aid those affected by Katrina

WESTOVER, Mass. Air Force reservists out of Westover are leaving on two missions today to areas ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

One group is headed to New Orleans. The other is going to Gulf Port, Mississippi. The reservists are bringing to Gulf Port 175-thousand pounds of ready-to-eat meals.

LANSING, Mich. The state has announced the deployment of an additional 48 Michigan National Guard members to the Hurricane Katrina disaster area.

Civil engineers and support personnel from the 110th Fighter Wing in Battle Creek were traveling to Gulf Port, Mississippi, today in three C-130 transport planes. Their duties could include establishing temporary housing and fighting fires.Also, six Lansing-based soldiers have departed for Louisiana with two light armored vehicles that will be used to help local law enforcement officers.Michigan has 524 Michigan National Guard members deployed to or en route to Louisiana or Mississippi. Another 100 National Guard members are on duty in Michigan to assist with deployments.

The governor has set up a task force on refugee resettlement.

The task force will assess the availability of shelter, food, clothing, educational and employment opportunities, as well as health care and other services the victims would need.

And nursing home patients from New Orleans could be on their way to Idaho in a matter of hours.

An Idaho National Guard C-130 cargo plane left Boise Saturday morning on its way to pick up the patients.
