In my last story, the Salvation Army expert noted that Baton Rouge was housing 250000 evacuees.
Now, that means essentially their population has doubled-- and remember, they were hit by the edge of Katrina also...
So does the NYTimes praise the city for their response? Do they name and praise the Baptist lady from Oklahoma who last Saturday made and gave out 3500 sandwiches?
Nope.
They criticize...
and instead of praising those who are exhausted, which maybe would lift their spirits, instead they publicize the normal complaints of people, while implying that such complaints were not the normal ventillating of frustration, but the "real" statements of a racist population...
Picking up survival supplies for your home without power at a camping supply store? Well, the implication is that you must be buying an evil gun to shoot you know who...(never mind that most in LA already have a gun in their house...and are probably buying coleman stoves).
And a woman who is sheltering 14 in her small house. Do they praise her for her generosity? No, they quote her making a statement of fear...again, fearing criminals means racism...
Essentially, the reporter wanted a story of southern racism, so took comments out of context, and voila...he has his story...
But don't expect us to thank him for his slanted report...
