Kong is King

Most of the reviews are good...

Here in the Philippines, Kong opens this weekend, but Narnia won't open until January...

Thanks to our Mayor Eto, we have a mall now, a "waltermart" with a large grocery store, appliance store, a Jolebee and a Mc Donalds (but no Starbucks) etc etc and it has a small movie theatre.

Of course, this being the Philippines, you can buy a pirate copy of every movie as soon as it's released, but not in stores, but in the Palenke or on the street.

Just like people in the US complain that Walmart and superstores will bankrupt all the small businessmen, here too the supermarket will probably put a lot of the smaller storekeepers out of business....

But I shudder to think we eat meat and veggies bought in the nearby Palenke open market (which is hygiene challenged, to say the least) rather than in a clean supermarket.

But the nearest modern supermarket is next door, but the Palenke is cheaper, and all the germs get killed with cleaning, so as long as it's fresh, it doesn't matter...

Just pull the dead bugs from the rice and soup and eat it.
