Psst...they're humming dirty words...

Years ago, there was a movie "The Bridge on the River Kwai", and the theme was a snappy march that was whistled...

Flanders and Swan have a monologue on it in their review "At the Drop of a Hat"...where Flanders explains that the reason that the song was whistled (and why so many Brits laughed when the music was played) was that the lyrics to the song were quite obscene...

"and so, mothers", Flanders goes on to opine, "whenever, you hear your children whistling, remember: They are whistling DIRTY WORDS"...

Well, maybe there is no "war against Christmas" but THIS (see link) reminds me of that joke... (HINT: The CurtJester is a satire site)

There are a lot of anecdotes in the newsabout Christmas songs not being sung because of censorship...The problem is that changing the words of a song with a long tradition is stealing our traditions and knowledge of our traditions from our children....."

But whistling or humming such songs (or allowing orchestral renditions) is probably better than changing the words to make them politically correct...

So remember, mothers, when your children are humming or whistling a Christmas carol, give them a lecture on "tolorance", because they are whistling non politically correct song lyrics that mention Jesus...
