Red Lake Nation vs NYTimes

Well, I posted on the NYTimes story of drugs in Indian country...

Well, here the RedLakeNation chairman protests the story he blocked the arrest of his relatives...

Martell was fired in July 2005 while he was a member of a joint task force involving the FBI, Red Lake and two other reservations, area sheriff's offices and other agencies. Red Lake has since pulled out of the arrangement, with Jourdain maintaining that the tribe's involvement threatened Red Lake's sovereignty.

What I know, and the NYTimes probably doesn't know, is that there are only two Indian tribes in the US who never signed a treaty with the US government..one is the Seminoles...and the other is Red Lake.

Essentially they are a quasi country, and proud of it.
So when I worked in Red Lake hospital, the tribal employees worked on July 4th but had off July 6th, which was the tribe's independence day...and even though we were a government hospital, we had off on Religious holidays like good Friday...because the tribe respected the religions of all its members, many of whom were Christians...

Another interesting fact is that in Oklahoma, you could get a tribal license plate for your car, but it had "oklahoma" on it...but in Red Lake, the plate did not have any state identification on it's license...but it did have a clan symbol....

Since I did not have a clan, I was allowed an honorary "bear clan" plate...the Bear clan is the clan that includes traditional doctors...
