Someone nearby is doing the pasyon chant, and we've been hearing it day and night.
It's a Holy week custom, to sing/chant/wail the Pasyon, the story of Christ's betrayal, passion, and death.
Unlike in the USA, where we expect to live healthy, wealthy, and forever, here in the rural Philippines, suffering, sickeness, poverty, and death is around us.
So it is ironic that evangelical missionaries (mainly from the USA) come here and preach against these terrible "pagan" customs so "we can learn to worship Jesus in the right way", while it is the "pagan" Filippinos who actually identify with the reality of the gospel...
ON the other hand, it is the protestantization of culture that allows globalization to make people wealthy here...but that's another boring essay.
WWJD? I suspect he'd be at the Pasyo singing, not at the houses of the rich self righteous politicians...but then, what do I know?
