Andrea Clark

Andrea Clark, whose hospital wanted to pull the plug over the objections of both her and her family, has died.
As a doc, I've had many family conferences with families over whether to treat or how far to treat.
When I worked in the Indian health service, some people would go home to die, but others, suspicious we might not treat them because of their ethnicity, would refuse to stop treatment.
There is a subtle difference between prolonging life and prolonging death. And sometimes people live with less intrusive treatment, especially the elderly.
Most Americans feel the same way about this as they do abortion: don't talk about it.
