The fiesta is over.
So we won't hear music and crowds and firecrakers all night. (the town square is one block over, and they use huge Bose speakers).
The noise neve bothers Lolo, since he takes out his hearing aid at night.
But one of the problems is garbage disposal.
You see, in the past, people just piled it in vacant lots, and after the kids/dogs/rats etc. went thru it, they would burn it.
But there are a lot fewer vacant lots now.
When we first married and came here, there was a lot of empty space, and the goats and water buffalo would browse. Now there are only half a dozen vacant lots, and at the same time more people coming to fiesta. So there are a lot more vendors downtown. And guess where they throw it?
So today, we could smell the garbage all the way into the house. All the neighbors were upset, especially since it is too wet to burn.
So Lolo got on his good clothes and went to see the mayor.
Most of the businessmen and the mayor know my stepson, but the older generation know my husband as head of the extended family.
The mayor was doing weddings, so he wasn't at the new city hall. So we drove to his house, announced ourself and waited in a gazebo where it was cool.
Afte ten minutes, the secratary took in the news, and came out and said he would arrange the garbage to be picked up at 11 am. And they actually showed up by 2 pm (which is quick!) and now they are gathering up the garbage.
Lolo tried to give them money for being that prompt, but they said no, it was their job.
But it was time for the afternoon break, so we got them snacks and soda.
Other news is that they are still working on the roof, and almost finished.
