My Granddaughter Madeline , 9, took a first place award and a $500 saving bond in YMCA competition for her ink painting of her family and an aircraft carrier.
"My mom, my two brothers and I were waving at our dad who was on the ship," Madeline says of her painting.
The painting — showing her father, John returning from Hawaii — is one of Madeline’s favorites.
It will be made into a poster and displayed worldwide, her teacher says.
