Kindness, cynicism, and paranoia

Right wing blogosphere is hyperventillating about Supreme court nixing treating terror suspects by different standards than ordinary prisoners.

Sorry, but I don't agree.
I'm an idealistic Christian who thinks all people need to be treated with charity and kindness, in the hope that they will repent and change their ways...

However, I am cynical enough to think the REAL result will be a lot more "terror suspects" being shipped to other countries, or suspected terrorists will be "killed escaping", being killed in "accidents", or (like here in the Philippines) being murdered by killers unknown...---------------------------------------------

Want to know why the Sunni hate the Shia....HERE is a summary, and even that short essay is a "MEGO" file (My eyes glaze over)...
----------------------
NormGeras lists deliberate killing of civilians in Iraq, and asks why it is only US atrocities that are protested.

Well, Norm, it's the same reason that the Cambodian genocide was not protested by those who lamented MaiLai......And remember killing in DAFUR was ignored because the political pressure from right wing Christians (that is, until Hollywood got involved). And the same reason few protest the deaths in the Congo or Zimbabwe...it's not about people being killed, it's about hating the evil USA...

9-11 conspiracy Nutcase on Hannity and Colmes keeps making claims you can't use a cellphone on an airplane... the fact that people believe it based on vague "experts" sounds more like "BushDerangementSyndrome" than reality... i.e. it's safer to believe Chimpybush is evil than to think maybe terrorists might be out there trying to kill you.....or maybe it's just paranoia...which the BBC says is more common than we think...

Reminds me of all the hysteria about MMR and polio vaccines that perculated down to Africa and as a result a lot of children died of polio ...

Engaget merely says that cellphones like other electronic equipment, mess up airplane's navigation system....technical discussion of cellphones HERE.... what is even more interesting is that this NYTimes and this CSMonitor article never question that such phone calls can't be done, but mainly discuss that maybe they should be banned on planes because they would drive those sitting around you nuts...

PopMech debunks most of the other rumors HERE....but the telephone rumor is fairly new...Hello, Snopes, what is your opinion?
