My stepson has started an organic veggie project, with local famers...he has the training farm, and we get these huge and fresh veggies to pack and take to Manila every other day. We also still have the chicken farm, although we now rent it out to another family.
So I get various agriculture newsletters, which is almost like being in another world.
The earthquake in China was bad for their poultry industry...
Korean chickens have been infected with bird flu, so that country is building a human bird flu vaccine factory.
All that hype about biofuels? Has only a small influence on food prices. It's the improved diet, and local cold spells etc.
And then there is Jatropha plantations for biodiesel...which grows on waste land...
Bengladesh is starting to export fresh veggies and fruit to the Middle East and Europe, via airplanes.
Similar reports from Africa's budding agricultural exports.
But in nearly every report, there are complaints of inflation. It's due to the increase in Oil prices, of course...
