Remembering the Japanese attack

In the US, December 7 is the day the war started, but here in the Philippines, it is December 8th, with the attack coming on a Monday when a lot of people were in church celebrating a feastday of Mama Mary (the Immaculate Conception).

I asked Lolo what he remembers, and he said he remembered his mother decided to leave town for the farm; he was still a boy, but he carried Remedios, and halfway there they had to stop to sleep by a river and chase snakes...
