A Smokey Bear Pendleton blanket, designed to honor the Mescalero Apache firefighters...
Inspired by an organized crew of Mescalero Apache firefighters whose first assignment off the reservation was to battle the fire at Capitan Gap, New Mexico where the orphaned cub was found among the scorched trees. He became the living representation of Smokey Bear, the fire prevention symbol used by the U.S. Forest Service.
The only problem?
The design is Navajo...and Navajos and Apaches are different tribes, although there is similarity in the languages...
