Recipe for the day
BoingBoing tells us about making Sauerkraut...
our German nuns used to make it in the cool season when I worked in Africa...you essentially cut up the cabbage, layer it then put in salt then put in cabage, put in salt etc. and cover with a plate with a rock to put pressure on it...
in a week you have sauerkraut...
My kids hated it until I learned to put in fried onions and slices of apple to take away the tart taste...
Although I prefer the Bavarian recipe using caraway seeds.
