And no, I never celebrated it (My sons were Colombianos and my husband Filipino, and when I lived in New Mexico, the Apaches didn't celebrate it either).
And no, it's not Mexican Independence day, but the day to celebrate throwing out the French who attempted to make Mexico a colony while the gringos were too busy fighting the civil war to stop them....
and ironically, it is celebrated more in the US than in Mexico...
