The papier-mache Moon Pie -- in storage for the past year -- will be lifted at midnight at Mobile Landing just south of Cooper Riverside Park, officials said...
Barbara Drummond, City of Mobile spokeswoman, said officials are also working to get fireworks to burst behind the Moon Pie.

Why a MoonPie?

The moon pie has been the popular throw at Mobile's Mardi Gras since 1974.

And what is a Moon Pie? From Wikipedia:
A moon pie or MoonPie[1] is a pastry which consists of two round graham cracker cookies, with marshmallow filling in the center, dipped in chocolate or other flavors.

This one is chocolate covered (The only ones worth eating)

And the Moon Pie company has recipes on how to use them (if you or your kids don't eat them first):
