Philippine massacre update

The president has declared martial law in the province where the massacre occurred, and arrested the governor.

But legally, she can't impose martial law unless it is a rebellion, and so even (ex president) Ramos has objected, saying it is an "over-reaction...(the Congress will have to okay it if it is to continue)...there is a lot of debate on this on the TV and radio, in Tagalog and English, parsing the law and it's implications.

ABS CBN has two reports: the justification seems to be the huge stores of arms found in a warehouse meant a rebellion was planned. Others are skeptical...

Ironically, the MILF is staying out of it (it doesn't affect their area).

The (pro administration) Manila Bulletin's headline today is "The World is Watching"...

Keep the Philippines in your prayers: the administration is on a tight rope between overreaction and not reacting enough...and if there is no justice, clan wars could erupt and kill many innocent people.
