Ah, but is it Kosher?

Oy vey. Some Brits have their knickers in a knot because they found out some places serve Halal meat.

Well, if there is money to be made, and the meat isn't contaminated with E coli or salmonella, I see no problem with this.

When I was in training, lot of our Muslim docs ate kosher meat to be sure it was Halal.

Indeed, there is some overlap but it's not the same..

.but then "kosher" may not be the same either.

A symbols "k" for kosher is not governed by any authority. Any manufacturer can use it at will. A website guiding Jews about Kosher states "it may take a great deal of detective work to ascertain the standard that a particular rabbi is using." For this reason many Muslims when buying anything kosher look for "u" in a circle which are more conservative Kosher symbol.

So bring on the Kosher pizzarias and the Halal Chinese Restaurants.

As long as they don't sell "double dead" meat, why worry?

on the other hand, the Animal rights folks want to make both illegal.
