Church versus state

It's not just Islamic mosques that run into problems with neighbors who fear them and use zoning laws and lawsuits to get rid of them.

Well, he was in the opposition, and therefore thrown out of work, but he also witnessed a political murder, and after that started really drinking heavily for fear he was the next one on their list.

The rejection of "multiculturalism" in Germany is ominous, not because of Hitler, but because of the Treaty of Trianon.
There were huge population shifts of minorities after World War I, when the "multicultural" Austria-Hungary and Ottoman empires dissolved.
And Germans should remember the Germans who were thrown out of Czeckoslovakia and western Poland after World War II ...
