Now, after it being done experimentally for several years, it has found to greatly improve those operated upon.
The paralysis with spina bifida was less, but not completely stopped, and half still needed shunts for the associated hydrocephalus. And, of course, some died from premature labor or other surgical complications.
Spina bifida is not the only malformation that might be treated this way: diaphragmatic hernias and some kidney malformations are also being treated.
