Happy Year of the Metal Rabbit

Turn down speakers and enjoy....

and Happy year of the metal rabbit....(aka golden rabbit).

Why "metal"? Wikipedia explains: they combine the animal cycle with the five elements cycle. more HERE.

This AsiaTImes article has more, (including references to the angry rabbit video I posted a few days ago)
"...the rabbit is associated with youth and the budding and flowering of spring. This favors the younger generation...The coming year also promises a lot more sex - for everybody, young and old. Where do you think the expression "breeding like rabbits" comes from?...When formulating their prognostications, geomancers must also consider the five basic elements - metal, wood, water, fire and earth - that rotate through the zodiac, creating a 60-year cycle. This year, like last, metal is sitting on top of wood. The troubling symbolism is that of a sheathed dagger, which bodes ill for international relations....The year's heavy metal theme is bad news for the global environment as well..."

Well, happy new year anyway:

the large Chinoy community in Manila is celebrating it, but not here in the Provinces.

The traditional greeting is “Kung Hei Fat Choi!”,which is Cantonese for “Congratulations and be prosperous.”

(Yes, China may be pushing Mandarin, but the Chinese diaspora speaks the Cantonese dialect).

A bishop is quoted in the MB article as criticizing the celebration; of course, he has a spanish surname, but in the past, some of those with Chinese ancestors said feng shui and other cultural aspects of Chinese celebrations are okay.

And, like in the US, few Pinoys obey the bishops when they speak against having fun.
