African tribes that eat a lot of cassava tend to be protein deficient and kids get kwashiorkor; and then there is the cyanide danger.
This might improve things: add bean genes to improve the protein content by changing the cyanide into protein.

Hmm...World gets fatter, but blood pressure goes down.
It's the salt. Now you can afford a lot of tasty foods, but in the past all you had was soysauce or fish sauce to make the rice etc. tasty; and now you can eat fresh meat, and not rely on salted meat and fish.
