She's right. AlJ. presents an independent Arab viewpoint, and unlike other media in the Middle east is not government controlled.
But the US has no equivalent network on cable: CNNinternational is full of "ethnic" types and British accents, whose manner frequently sneers at the US point of view even when their actual words are "fair and balanced". Yes, I know. Anderson Cooper, the favorite posterboy on certain fashion websites, is American, but his show isn't on when we watch TV.
So we end up watching the BBC instead. Indeed, half the time I check CCNI while channel surfing it's nonsense (sports or hollywood), while BBC has a guy reporting hard news.

In contrast, here in the Philippines, we have strict libel laws, so check these headlines about the investigation on corruption:
Amnesia grips witnesses
By TJ Burgonio and Christian V. Esguerra
The inquiry into military corruption resumed Thursday at the Senate, with the persons summoned to testify beset by forgetfulness and hypertension.
- General’s wife excused over ‘unstable’ condition
- Ex-military comptroller’s brother-in-law denies being dummy
- Ex-AFP chief Cimatu stumped by info on 2 Iloilo properties
it's going to be a long investigation, especially since the chief witness did a harikari on himself...sigh.
