Money stories below the fold

My cynical take on the "day without shoes" : my rant "feeling good by not wearning shoes" at BNN.

If you think that charity is the only way to help the poor, you haven't been watching Asia.
And you probably don't notice a growing African market either.
but China has, for better or for worse...
Yes, charity is needed, especially in emergency or war situations, but unwise charity makes things worse.

An interesting contrast can be found in part 3 of the romance A Town Called Alice, which we just watched on YOUTUBE...
Part one is about being a POW, Part 2 about digging a well and wondering if the hero and heroine will ever get together, but part three is about Jean starting a shoe factory, using locally produced leather and using local woman to do the work, to improve the town

So how much is Smaug worth? only 8.6 billion, unless the price of gold keeps going up.
