Stuff below the fold

Was a decrease in the birth of girls in Europe due to Atomic bomb testing and Chernobyl?

Buttery smelling chemical might be used to lure moquitoes into traps.

There is a "cheap" method using yeast and soda bottles for traps, but the problem is that this also attracts ants.

Home Sanctuary's tip for today: find all your tools and put them away where they belong.

Mother Jones points out (tongue in cheek) scary things that can kill you...

well, you gotta die of something...

attention to "soap opera issues" leading to dumbing down America?

well, Rush Limbaugh and George Noury can make economic issues interesting, but who knows if their analysis is correct? And StrategyPage can tell you more about what's going on in the Middle East than a dozen AP stories about bombs going off.

and this is nothing new: Professor Anderson points out that the printing press led to the Reformation, not because they printed bibles but because printers found they could make lots of money printing short cheap tracts about the evil heretics or the whore of Babylon (the pope)...sometimes the same printer printed both tracts.

International Horseradish Festival
June 4-5, 2011
Woodland Park, Collinsville, Illinois

This year, contestants will face off at a root toss (166 feet is a festival record), a root sacking contest (last year's winning couple dumped 51 pounds of horseradish into a sack in 30 seconds) and a root recipe showdown (strip steak with horseradish and honeydew won last year), as well as at a root golf tournament, a root relay race and a Little Miss Horseradish Pageant.
