Stuff below the fold take two

Leptospirosis, a rat borne disease that is caught by wading in flood waters, is becoming a worry in the Philippines...this CDC article suggests most cases are never diagnosed, and suggests that a fast and easy test is needed.

since it can be treated with common antibiotics such as penicillin and doxycycline, one suspects many cases are just treated empirically by doctors.

keeping down the rat population by garbage collection could help too, but we find that even with rat poison, rat killing dogs and mice killing cats, we still have a problem...they migrate in from the nearby vacant lots..

and we also have a dengue alert...1600 cases so far this year...and again, most cases are mild and never see the doctor....now if they'd only spray the open ditch sewers.
