World Youth Day

from the Inquirer.

Benedict told them their decisions to dedicate their lives to their faith was a potent message in today’s increasingly secular world.

“This is all the more important today when we see a certain eclipse of God taking place, a kind of amnesia which albeit not an outright rejection of Christianity is nonetheless a denial of the treasure of our faith, a denial that could lead to the loss of our deepest identity,” he said.

Bluepangeetblog has a series full of photos reporting from the event on his blog and his facebook page includes streaming videos

he reports not just about the mass but about the concerts and teaching sessions in the different languages.

he reports that the protesters mocked the youth all day, but were only arrested when they started throwing things. Nothing on google news yet about this, but it is covered in the Inquirer, without of course mentioning why the protesters were removed....

here is some of his photos: faces of world youth day:

the official WYD Pinoy webpage

and YouthPinoy is twittering the event. they report being harassed too.

the complaints that the money needs to be sent to Somalia is a "straw man" argument, because you don't see the protesters working with the poor or giving time to help...and pilgrimages renew hearts and inspire people to actually do such things.
