Sigh. Flooding in Bulacan

From the Manila Bulletin:
Residents of flood-hit Calumpit, Bulacan ride a banca after they were rescued when floodwaters washed away their houses, Friday, September 30, 2011. A state of emergency has been declared in Calumpit, Bulacan, because of neck-deep floods submerging houses and forcing residents to flee to safer grounds. The massive flooding was allegedly spawned by excess water released by dams in Central Luzon. (Photo by MARK BALMORES)

Our floods have improved, and folks are cleaning up.

But the rain is coming downstream and the floods in some areas are still bad, mainly due to the need to release the high water levels before the next typhoon which is supposed to hit north of Luzon today. (The "eye" will hit the north instead of going over central Luzon, but it does mean more water).

We lost some of our rice crop from the flooding, but I don't know how bad it was until this next storm goes through. North of town, it is very flat and the canal irrigation water is close by, of course, and the fields are one foot above the top of the canal...

this gives you an idea on how flat our area is, and how close to the canals some folks houses are built...
