Monsters of the id and other trivial questions

hippies now using hallucinogens to "feel one with the universe" and say docs need to use more of these drugs to "cure" the anxiety of the hippie narcissists.

Is this medical treatment, or just new age faith healing?

I suspect the latter, because no side effects or problems mentioned, and even placebos have side effects.

Another question: what about the dangers of envoking the
"monsters of the id"...
we saw a lot of this in the "free drug" folks of the 1960's, which is why even the hippies stopped using hallucinogens.

full rant moved to my xanga blog.

Factoid of the day The term "monsters of the id" comes from the classic sci fi movie Forbidden planet was based on Shakespeare's the Tempest, and starred Anne Francis and Leslie Nielsen...and introduced the world to Robbie the Robot....all three of them went on to distinguished acting careers...

Factoid of the day two: The Tempest might have been inspired by the wreck of the Sea Venture on Bermuda...and a more fascinating story is how that shipwreck resulted in saving the colony of Jamestown.

Summary: The shipwrecked folk rebuilt boats and took supplies to Jamestown, helping them to survive.
