Roger Ebert says it all: lousy movies, dirty theatres that sell over priced popcorn and allow noisy people to distub viewers, and above all, lousy movies (and the inability to see the decent "small films" that are out there, which you usually have to wait to rent via NetFlix).
None of this applies to me: for years we never went to films because Lolo couldn't hear the dialogue clearly (rented films at least had subtitles). And here in the Philippines, we finally have a theatre in our small town, and Ruby goes there with friends frequently, but for us old folks, it's easier to watch movies bought at the Palenke for 80 pesos (and often available a week before they open in Manila) or wait until they hit HBO Asia next year.
