Here in the provinces, when people greet my husband (and sometimes myself), they ask for a blessing. It is a greeting of respect, something that is lacking alas too often in some parts of the USA. (I say some parts because I tended to work in poorer areas where traditions of family, not gov't, caring for one's family is still strong).
