A previous post quoted Ralph Bashki...where I mentioned that some of the background cartoon work was done by Thomas Kincaide.

he also made an early cartoon on Lord of the Rings (it was part one, and not a hit). Peter Beagle (author of the Last Unicorn) helped write the screenplay.
And yes, it can now be found on Youtube (until the copyright cops find it).
He used a slow rotoscope technique to do the orcs etc.
some of his techniques were pioneered by his cult film WIZARDS
part two of LOTR was never done by Baski because his first film wasn't a hit...so it ended up being made by the same cartoonists that made the original Hobbit LINK
