India steps into Philippines-China spat over South China


India not only has a growing presence in oil and gas exploration off Vietnam in the South China Sea, there has been an Indian presence in helping to keep the sea lanes safe and open for some time now. Besides, India is also signaling to the Southeast Asian nations that it remains engaged about the issues that concern them.  ...

They note that the People's Liberation Army Daily, is theatening war over the reef, which is less than 200 miles from Luzon...
As I noted earlier (and here) it's the "nose of the camel in the tent": We are the weakest link, and if they can get the shoals, they will pick off those who claim the Sparatlys one at a time...

but Obama's weakness (saying the US is "neutral") is sending a loud message to it's allies in Asia: they won't help you stand up to China's land grabs...

In 2007, there were 44,000 such attacks from China and this rose to 55,000 in 2008, and then to over 100,000 last year.
The Department of Defense report also cited similar attacks on European defense and commercial organizations

so far, the US State Dept won't let them hack back...
