Political factoid of the day

Half of Oklahoma, Tennessee and Kentucky have Native American ancestry but that doesn't mean they are entitled to affirmative action benefits. You need to register in the tribe and have a certain percentage of native American blood (CDIB card).

So Elizabeth Warren used a family rumor to get her job in Harvard, but never bothered to get papers to affirm it, which is a form of fraud, since essentially she "stole' the job from someone equally qualified but not a member of a group that needed affrimative action.

but the real news is that Congressman's Ryan's wife is part Chickesaw, but not registered in the tribe.
Incidentally, Janna Ryan is a first cousin of outgoing Rep. Dan Boren (D-Oklahoma). They are related through her father, so Boren also has Chickasaw ancestry. Boren is going to work for the Chickasaw Nation when he leaves Congress. Like Ryan, he is not currently enrolled in the tribe.
When I worked in Oklahoma, many local Okies did the paperwork to get a CDIB card, so they could get IHS care and free medicine when they lost their jobs and health insurance.

In contrast, Sarah Palin's husband and family are on the tribal rolls, but it was ignored by the press. So she could not get care in the IHS, unless she was pregnant...
