No, it's not mithril, but you can craft your own chain mail shirt out of discarded soda can pop tops.

A mail coat of aluminum pop tops? Why yes.

 Mithril was aluminum,according to this article... which until modern times was very hard to manufacture.

But Tolkien gateway says mithril was probably the harder titanium, although aluminum, platinum (which is probably too heavy to fit the description) and magnesium are other possibilities.
