While watching this, I noticed that Bilbo is wearing his bathrobe.

I don't seem to remember this in the book, where the dwarves arrive for late afternoon tea, (but Ruby has my book, so I can't check it out).
So is it Tolkien, or is it a joke by Jackson, making a reference to a similar movie about a clueless Nebbish caught up in a big adventure (in his bathrobe)?
